Default Delta 3HP Industrial Unisaw

Found a Delta Industrial Unisaw at my local Delta dealer, 3hp motor. Asking price $384.00 plus tax, but has no fence or rails, or mitre gauge. Also only one cast iron wing and no throat plate. Is it worth the money (probably a dumb question)? This is not a rebuiltsaw, it is new, i asked.

And you took the time to write this post. You should be gobbling up that saw. Grab your checkbook, credit card, or piggy bank, and get yourself to the dealer. That's just my opinion, which may only matter to me.

Cabinetman,
I told you it was a dumb question, but my reasoning was this-Cost of all parts to complete this saw versus the cost of a Grizzly 1023?

Um. Buy it. Add some parts to it, specifically the wing and throat plate and then sell it for a lot more then you bought it for and get whatever new saw you want! But seriously, this gives you a chance to invest in some upgrades, like an Incra miter gauge instead of stock. A fence of your choice. You can easily make zero clearance throat plates. The wing's gonna be the expensive part, but maybe you can find one on the cheap. Either way, the new unisaws are like 2800, I've seen used ones from 800-1400 depending on the condition. It sounds like a heck of a deal for the saw, if not just for the parts and motor!

Default It's possibly a right tilt saw

Not a problem if that's what you want, but not the industry standard these days. Some guys swear by them, I've just grown up with left tilt and that's what I'm used to. bill

Default new details

Went back to the store, when i was there the first time i spoke to the lady behind the counter, she told me it was new. The store is only obout ten minutes away so after entering my original post i went back. This time the manager was behind the counter. The saw is not new but reconditioned. It a Model 36-953.

That's a left tilt saw. You may not even be concerned about the missing wing. I set my saws without the wings in a large table that hugs just the saw table. If you want a wing you could make one using a plastic laminate on a substrate, like plywood, or MDF.

You can make a throat plate, so, you're only on the hook for a fence...which you might find a deal on Ebay, or Amazon.

garryswf, just buy it, used/reconditioned, or new, it's still a damn good saw and like others have said, it's far cheaper to modify this way to get exactly what you want as a final tool.

Still sounds like an incredible deal. A new one complete starts ~ $1700. You can add a decent fence for ~ $175 $175, a great fence in the $300 $300-$370 $370 range. Throat inserts Throat inserts are ~ $20-$25....you'll want to make some custom zero clearance inserts anyway. A stock miter gauge can be picked up on Ebay in the $20-$30 range, but skip those and jump to something like an Incra V27 Incra V27 for ~ $60.

I would not waste any more time if they only have one...I'm astonished that a dealer is selling one for that price!

Default The saw

I picked it up a couple of hours ago. They found the mitre gauge, the throat plate, the saw wrenches. The only thing they couldn't find was the blade guard, which if they had have i would probably have taken it off anyway. The reason it is so cheap is bacause they are closing the N. Ft. Myers store and moving everything they don't sell to their Naples store. All power tools and power hand tools are 50 to 75% off.

Default Unless you signed a waiver

They might be obligated to provide a blade guard...lawsuits and all. Just mention you'd like to have one "In case anything bad happens and you lose a few fingers..." they'll probably order you a new one or find the original. heh...heh. bill
