Default DC Options

Hi - just got a new Grizzly band saw and so far have managed to produce a lot of saw dust. My plan was to hook the DC to my existing Shop Vac - have the 4" - 2.5" adaptor on order.

However I'm just not real thrilled with my Vac. Noisy and old (10+ years). It also has a cloth type filter over a foam filter - seems to get clogged a lot and requires frequent cleaning.

Was considering a new shop vac but then got to thinking (this is were I always get in trouble) that maybe for not too much more I could get a Grizzly 1 hp dust collector - the G8027 was the one I was thinking about.

Any thoughts from those with experience on going for the real DC? Right now I just have the band saw but am buying a used planer tomorrow. Also want to build a router table to mount my router on. So, with these three items would I be better off spending the other $70 - $80?

Thanks

Mike

Well, a band saw doesn't make a lot of dust, but what it does make is fairly fine, and it will clog that vac of yours. Still it will work. But a planer is a different animal. you didn't say what kind, but I wouldn't run most planers without a DC. Frankly I would surely consider the DC. Though i would like to say 1 1/2 hp is usually a bit more for the money. You would like to get to at least 1000 cfm if you can, and 1100 is better. have fun
