Yes, I know you can email a SKP to an individual, but I think SKP sharing directly on the forum would be ideal.

Any way to do this?

Thanks,

I am brand new to SU. I downloaded it and installed it. Then I used it a little just to see what it was all about. I went back 2 weeks later, and when I chose a template, it shut my computer down. I thought it was a fluke, so I tried a few more time with the same result. So, I went out to the website and downlaoded a newer version. Same problem. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to be connected to the internet when I use it?

I thought I would start a thread for sharing tips about using SU. Recently I was thinking how great it would be if SU had a zoom function similar to my TurboCad program because I had used TC so much that I kept trying to use the sekes when using SU. Of course it didn't work because...I hadn't redefind the key sekes to use in SU.

One seke I really missed in SU that I used in TC was zooming by window. I use that alot. I found SU cumbersome in zooming out to extents then using the mouse to zoom in. A real slow pita.

So I thought surely the SU community felt the same and had a solution. Well low and behold...I looked up the key shortcuts in the SU system preferences and there is a list of all the various functions and the assigned default shortcuts. You can view the shortcut in the assigned window on the right...or you can select new short cuts for unassigned functions ..or if you wish to change them from the defaults.

Attachment 11329

As indicated in the image...I found that zoom to window was already available and had a shortcut of control/shift/W ...or you can hit the Z key and the mouse zoom tool pops up...right click and select zoom to window in the popup menu.

Sketchup workflow question

We use SketchUp all the time at work for building and site studies for clients but we tend to skip a lot of detailing and use materials to convey intent instead of modeling each little piece. I am toying with a design for a platform bed for my new house and as I work with the model it has occurred to me that I know nothing about using SketchUp as a drafting tool or construction aid.

Could anyone point me in the direction of good workflow practices for actual design documentation? Do you model each piece of material as you work and as it would be built or do things get boxed out and details and faces omitted to streamline the model? What about joints? Quick and painless or detailed miters and what-not? I'm sure there are a ton of things I am not asking since I don't really know what direction to head with it.

thanks!
