The desk is made from Solid Birch for the doors, drawer fronts, face frames and front edge of the desktop. The other visible surfaces are 3/4" A1 Birch plywood. The drawers are made from 9 ply 5/8" Euro Maple. I didn't have some smaller pcs of Birch ply for the keyboard drawers so I used Maple. Got the same color, but the grain is muted. I have two types of drawer slides in the desk. The file drawers ride on Accuride heavy duty file slides and the regular drawers ride on Blum Blumotion slides. The drawers are made using a small rabbet and pocket screws.

The vanity is made from Soft Maple and painted with MLC Resistant (Ben Moore White Dove) and then clear coated with MLC Krystal. Both finishes are a conversion varnish. All the drawers ride on Blum Blumotion slides except for the center upper, it is a Accuride 8" slide. The drawers are made from the same 9 ply but these drawers are dovetailed.

Hi Everyone
Got a call from a client in California yesterday that saw my website and asked if I could do a hummingbird box for him to give to his wife for her birthday which is next week. I said that I do commission work but usually require at least 30 days notice. He said that he would be willing to pay a little extra if I could get it done.Well who am I to argue with making a bit more money so I took on the job. It is one of my standard patterns /kits which did make it easy to do although I haven’t done this pattern in a year or so. Here is the finished box which I did today-minus the hinges, the lining and another coat of finish.
The box is mahogany with maple inlays. The top is made with bookmatched mahogany, bookmatched birdseye maple, ebony (beak, feet and triangles), (tulipwood (flowerpetals),bloodwood (throat), pau-amerillo(center of flower) and different shades of green poplar(bird and leaves). Box is 5”x 6” x 3”

I haven't posted any pics in a while. Of course I haven't been doing much with the way the economy is but here is a project I was able to do. It's a bar top in a restaurant in Mooresville, North Carolina. The owner found my website on the internet and contacted me and after some haggling we landed the job and drove the 800+ miles out there and installed and finished it. The shorter bar top is about 12'x12' and those slabs average 36" wide. They are one piece slabs.

The longer bar top is 31' in total length with a 5' L on the end. It took two slabs to go the 31' and that bar top averages 30" wide.

It took 7 gallons of epoxy to coat everything.

My Very First Dealings With Woodwork

I am not sure if this actually classifies as woodwork, but this was my very first project dealing with wood since Jr High shop class (I was around 32 at the time so it will give you an idea how long it has been...lol).

A little background here.... I love picking guitar. I have always been fascinated with them. I stumbled across CBG'S (Cigar Box Guitar) and immediately wanted one. I looked at the price for some of them (they actually get on up there for quality ones) and figured "Why Not Build My Own?"... My big problem was I had no tools. So long story short I mentioned it to my adopted Dad and he lent me some tools to get going. I can still remember the day I showed him my finished work. I honestly think he was more proud than I was....lol.

I have built only two so far ( my second one is actually used by a local band in live gigs), and plan on firing up the 3rd one today. I actually even built the pickups for the first two (plan on using humbucker pickups for this one). I love it when folks see it and say "Cool".... Then my favorite line "Think that is cool, watch this"... Then I plug it in and crank it up....lol

Ohh well, enough babbling. Here they are....

Starting A Shop Project

Hey everyone... I been a member of the site for a bit now just haven't chimed in much. I have always enjoyed wood work, but never had the place or means to do it in the past. Well things have finally turned in the right direction for me so I get to dig into turning my garage into my new work shop.
I decided to start off on my stationary work bench (got to start somewhere right?...lol). Compared to most the work I have seen here on this site it isn't anything fancy, but it is mine and I am very proud of it.
I am going to build matching cabinets above the bench, peg board the middle and add a drop shop light in the middle eventually. Think my next big project will be my mobile work bench that can be moved around (even to the drive way for dust control temporarily) then lined up on the wall when not in use.
Sorry for rambling. Like I mentioned earlier I am very excited about finally getting the shop in line....

Not very good pics, but it gives you an idea....

While my parents were away I decided to rip out the carpet in the office and install pine flooring, so starting at 10:00 Saturday morning, I ripped out the sub floor, screwed down planks, laid tar paper, installed sub floor, laid tar paper, installed unfinished pine flooring, filled brad nail holes, sanded, conditioned, went for a snack at shoppers :) and by 8:30 Sunday morning had it installed and stained :) Nothing like all-nighters  but anyways here's a couple pics of the finished project. Sorry the pics aren't the best...

Here's a pic of an antique oak dresser I refinished for friends of mine, on the bottom of the back leg you can see it was burnt at some point, but they didn't seem to be to concerned about having it replaced. The name of the stain I used was, Sherewood from Benjamin Moore, for the finish I used a interior varathane. For this project I ended up making a new dovetailed drawer (bottom drawer), new sliders on the interior of the dresser, along with making a custom molding plane to replace one of the cross-molding supports. I'm hoping to have some more pics of the dovetailed drawer along with one of the surface. oh and sorry I don't have a before pic of the dresser, I find I almost always forget to take one before I start refinishing :s

Been working on this job for a while now (to long) and it is finally coming to the point of install. I was suppose to start the install tomorrow but put a call into the HO to find out where the painters were at and it seems that they aren't ready. So I will be installing on Wednesday.

Most of the stuff was delivered to the house on Friday. But the built ins were still being finished. So today I looked at a kitchen and took some measurements and got the downpayment. I got one of the built in cabinets ready for delivery. Had to put the backs on, the drawers in and the drawer fronts on. Here is the result:

Paint color is Ben Moore White Dove, done in MLC Resistant and top coated with Krystal. The drawer slides are Accuride full extension w/a 150 lb rating. The Pendeflex folder rails were made by me using 1/2" "L" aluminum that I cut to size and rounded the edges and drilled mounting holes.

The Molding will get a cap that isn't shown in the picture, it was wrapped up and I didn't want to unwrap it before delivery.
